The Block 2022 - Being Part of a Winning Kitchen
For an athlete, the goal is to compete in the Olympics. For a singer, the dream would be to perform on a world tour. For a luxury stone specialist? To be featured on The Block. In 2022, those dreams came true for us, and the experience was even more than we could have imagined. If being part of the build wasn’t enough, the kitchen that we graced with our exquisite stone also took out the week as the winner.
Working with Tom and Sarah was a perfect fit for Deluxe Stone, as their values when designing this kitchen aligned with our values as a company. The couple said in an interview “we built it for love, not just for a photoshoot”, and despite receiving criticism throughout the week from the site foreman, they stayed true to their ideas, and ultimately took out the prize. To us, this demonstrated that when you build a home for passion, something that truly makes you happy (rather than just following a trend!) the final product becomes a masterpiece. This is exactly why we loved working with this team - because every project we work on is more than just a house to us, it’s a home – someone’s masterpiece.
Working on The Block certainly comes with its challenges, however. Our team were required to work under immense time pressure, and at far from usual hours of the day. Receiving criticism from the site supervisor was also a hard pill to swallow. Our team only ever deliver the best of quality work and have been involved in several multi-million dollar builds in the past, so to hear the couple being slandered for their ideas wasn’t taken lightly. Believing in the design as much as Tom and Sarah did pushed us through to the end, and seeing the “perfect score” of 30 points at Sundays reveal made all the hard work and suspense worth it.
The judges praised the functional layout with dedicated “five zones” and said that “it’s the ultimate entertainer’s kitchen because you’ve got this incredible space”. There were also bonus points for the butler’s pantry, which Deluxe Stone also helped bring together with our stone bench tops. It’s not every day the judges give out a 30, but if you ask us, it was nothing but deserved.
When building your future home, or renovating your kitchen, just remember the lesson from this couple – a house is not a home without your love and passion. A home should be uniquely yours, and when you follow your intuition, you can make miracles happen….like combining four different metals and making it work as Tom and Sarah did!
Hopefully this is only the start of our journey on The Block, so stay tuned for appearances next season and beyond.
